Clinical Research Manager – Oncology Research Program (ORP)

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The primary function of the Clinical Research Manager (CRM) will be to organize and manage operational aspects of ORP funded clinical studies from approval and submission‚ through execution and completion, ensuring adherence to timelines and applicable guidelines. The CRM will also act as a primary clinical interface between the NCCN ORP and the responsible NCCN member institutions, investigators, and pharmaceutical companies involved in ORP research projects.   

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Developing and coordinating the operational plans for a clinical study or multiple clinical studies within a research project.
  • Interacting with principal and co-investigators, study coordinators and other site staff to ensure study execution.
  • Overseeing ORP study monitoring, including maintenance of project worksheets and review of investigators quarterly reports.
  • Providing mentorship, oversight and ongoing training of ORP staff.
  • Assisting with providing quarterly reports to grantors including tracking of timelines and deliverables.
  • Developing and maintaining, in coordination with the ORP Manager, detailed study timelines.
  • Providing accurate and timely comprehensive written and verbal communications concerning clinical studies, including management updates.
  • Assisting with ORP meetings including scientific advisory boards, scientific review boards, and annual investigator meetings.
  • Ensuring internal and external meeting minutes and agendas are generated and disseminated, as appropriate.
  • Overseeing grant disbursements, investigator meeting costs, etc.
  • Reviewing investigator proposals for grants to ensure consistency with requests for proposals.
  • Reviewing protocols, informed consents, and final reports/manuscripts to ensure consistency with approved proposals and contracts and, when indicated, corrective actions taken.
  • Participating in meetings to review clinical trial timelines, objectives, deliverables, quality issues and other day-to-day operations.

EDUCATION/RELATED EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in a biomedical or health related field required.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in oncology clinical research in a pharmaceutical or academic setting, with exposure to traditional CRA functions (site identification, monitoring, tracking, data collection and cleaning) and clinical study management.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Working knowledge of FDA regulations, ICH and GCP guidelines.
  • Excellent organization skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • MS Office skills.
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional and multi-cultural environment.

Communications Specialist

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Communications Specialist coordinates and supports NCCN’s communications efforts including external communications, media relations, and frequent contact with public relations staff at NCCN Member Institutions. While the job duties are primarily performed from the NCCN offices, occasional travel (about once a quarter) is necessary.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interact regularly with media, particularly oncology trade press. Field inquiries, coordinate interviews, and share NCCN information with key media.
  • Draft, route, and file all press releases.
  • Draft, route, and file all e-blasts.
  • Draft, route, and approve promotional copy.
  • Liaison with NCCN staff to acquire clinical and other content for promotional materials.
  • Manage internal staff and outside vendors to keep project timelines and budgets on target.
  • Participate as part of a team to define NCCN PR strategy.
  • Support efforts to execute PR strategy.
  • Track national media coverage of oncology-related issues. Share relevant articles with NCCN executive staff.
  • Communicate updates of NCCN efforts to PR and Marketing staff at NCCN Member Institutions.  
  • Monitor www.nccn.org  clinician website for accuracy.
  • Communicate with NCCN Member Institutions to collect material to be repurposed for www.nccn.com  consumer website.
  • Research award opportunities and manage application process
  • Manage the NCCN Cancer Case Manager™ updates and distribution
  • Create and manage sample and production files and marketing tracking database for all marketing and collateral materials including PDFs, hard copies, etc.
  • Proofread and copy edit promotional materials.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/RELATED EXPERIENCE:

  • BA/BS in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or related field.
  • At least 3 years of communications experience, preferably in a non-profit health care setting.
  • Familiarity with oncology preferred.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong proofreading skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Familiarity with AP style and news writing essential.
  • Ability to synthesize complicated clinical information in order to communicate (both in writing and speech) with a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and PowerPoint.

Continuing Education Program Manager

NCCN is seeking a motivated, experienced continuing education program manager.  In this role, the successful candidate will manage the daily operations of the continuing education program, including compliance and the reaccreditation survey process with ACCME, ANCC, and other accreditation programs as appropriate. Some overnight travel is required.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure that all CE activities sponsored by NCCN are planned and carried out in compliance with ACCME, ANCC, and other accreditation standards as appropriate.
  • Develop and manage evaluation strategies, impact/outcomes analyses, and tools for all CE activities.
  • Implement and coordinate program planning procedures for CE activities, and ensure that documentation of the planning process is appropriate and complete. 
  • Assist in the development of educational needs to be addressed by CE activities.
  • Assist in the development and refining of educational objectives.
  • Assist with the educational design of CE activities.
  • Assure that a signed, completed disclosure form is on file for each member of the faculty of a CE activity and that any potential conflicts have been resolved prior to presentation.
  • Serve as a member of the planning committee for individual CE activities.
  • Write and coordinate applications for accreditation by the ACCME and ANCC.
  • Complete all required ACCME and ANCC reports.
  • Supervise Project Manager.
  • Act as a liaison to CE offices at NCCN member institutions and joint sponsors.
  • Stay current with accreditation policies and practices.

EDUCATION/RELATED EXPERIENCE:

  • BA/BS required; advanced degree preferred
  • 5+ years professional experience in continuing medical education, preferably in an academic setting
  • 2+ years staff management experience
  • Experience with the accreditation/reaccreditation process; management of accreditation/reaccreditation process preferred.

Medical Director, Information and Informatics

The NCCN offers an exciting and challenging opportunity for a medical oncologist seeking to impact the practice of oncology nationally and internationally. This position is responsible for providing clinical guidance and informatics expertise to NCCN information programs including development of the clinical practice guidelines, informatics/information systems products, guidelines for patients, continuing medical education programs, etc.  This physician staff member works collaboratively with NCCN physicians and scientists, guidelines coordinators, continuing medical education staff, and oncology scientists to ensure production of accurate, clinically relevant, and multi-functional information products. Opportunity also exists to work on development of the NCCN National Oncology Outcomes Database Project.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Attend or review guidelines update meetings and telephone conferences to identify substantive changes in the algorithms, identify appropriate citations to support recommendations, etc.   
  2. Work with guidelines and information systems staff to develop and enhance informatics products that anticipate and meet the needs of practicing clinicians.
  3. Provide medical review of all NCCN clinical information products.
  4. Participate in development of agendas for continuing education programs including the NCCN Annual Conference, the Hematologic Malignancies Congress, Regional Symposia, and Innovative Therapeutics Meeting.
  5. Review CME programs to assist in determining the relevance of the materials, drafting testing materials, and ascertaining appropriate numbers of contact hours to be assigned to each activity. 
  6. Provide leadership in developing annual Fellows Program.
  7. Provide oncology overview at training programs for case managers.
  8. Moderate CME programs.
  9. Provide medical input to the Oncology Research Program including assisting with development of requests for proposals, review of protocols for accuracy and consistency with approved proposals, review of protocol amendments, and review of abstracts and manuscripts.

EDUCATION/RELATED EXPERIENCE:

M.D. or D.O. with board certification or board eligibility in Medical Oncology, Hematology, or other oncology-related specialty required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must have recent clinical experience in medical oncology/hematology, radiation oncology, gynecologic oncology or closely related field.
  • Must have expertise in medical informatics including EMR, clinical decision-assist systems, etc.   
  • Must have strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with internal and external personnel at various levels.
  • Must have excellent writing skills and the ability to formulate medical information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Must have the organizational ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Experience in outcomes research and/or health services research is a plus.

Oncology Guidelines Coordinator

The successful candidate will have knowledge of terminology and treatment modalities in oncology and experience working with multidisciplinary oncology professionals. Previous clinical oncology experience a plus. Position also requires proficiency with Microsoft Office and in performing Internet research. CorelDraw experience a plus.  Strong organizational and communication skills required. Attention to detail is essential. Degree in health-related field (nursing, public health, health education/administration) required, Masters preferred. Some travel is required.

Oncology Scientist - Compendium

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position is responsible for development and maintenance of the NCCN Drugs and Biologics Compendium™ and the NCCN Chemotherapy Standard Orders Set. This staff member works collaboratively with guidelines coordinators, oncology scientists, physician panel members, etc. to ensure prompt and accurate incorporation of new drug indications from the NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology™ into the Compendium. Staff member also works with NCCN clinical pharmacists and others to develop and maintain Standard Orders Set.  Minimal travel is required.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Attend or review guidelines update meetings and telephone conferences to identify substantive changes in the recommended uses of drugs and biologics in the treatment of cancer.
  2. Review draft algorithms to identify new or changed uses of drugs and biologics in the guidelines.
  3. Draft new compendium entries or update existing compendium entries to reflect changes in guidelines.
  4. Review FDA indications and update compendium to reflect any changes in agent labels.
  5. Enter update of compendium into the publication database and work with proof reader/copy editor to ensure error-free publication.
  6. Develop and maintain not indicated list for each disease site.
  7. Interact with NCCN clinical pharmacist representatives to Standard Orders Set project.
  8. Develop or update specific Templates.
  9. Track oncology literature, especially as related to drugs and biologics.

EDUCATION/RELATED EXPERIENCE:

PharmD or RPh with ability to evaluate clinical research.  Experience in oncology and in oncology scientific/medical writing preferred.  Extensive expertise in and experience with cancer treatment modalities.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Must have the functional knowledge to evaluate medical and drug use recommendations and to translate into comprehensive written guidelines and compendium format.
  2. Must be proficient in MS Office products.
  3. Must have strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with internal and external personnel at various levels.
  4. Must have excellent writing skills and the ability to formulate medical information in a clear and concise manner.
  5. Understanding of implications of compendium and order set products for utilization and coverage policy is a plus.

Project Assistant

NCCN is seeking a motivated individual to provide editorial support, material formatting, and speaker liaison for conferences, symposia, and other educational projects.  This position requires significant overnight travel.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate speaker scheduling.
  • Acquire, edit, proofread, and format supportive materials including resumes, slides, and educational materials for participants.
  • Work with speakers and vendors to create audience response questions and presentation materials.
  • Work with internal staff, NCCN vendors, and faculty on development/production of enduring educational materials.
  • Proofread and/or route to designated proofreaders all programs for content accuracy, i.e. marketing standards program consistency, program functionality, CME accreditation language provided by and reviewed with Continuing Education Program Manager, specific content provided by NCCN faculty and guidelines staff.  Communicate edits accurately and proof for their inclusion.
  • Maintain scheduling status reports for programs.
  • Manage project timelines.
  • Function onsite as faculty liaison, audio-visual coordinator, and PowerPoint operator.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/RELATED EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field or equivalent experience.
  • 2-3 years medical copyediting experience or project management experience for a health professional audience.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Proficient in MS Office products.
  • Advanced PowerPoint skills.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of internal and external staff, managers, and physicians.
