UNMC Eppley Cancer Center at The Nebraska Medical Center

The UNMC Eppley Cancer Center at The Nebraska Medical Center is a National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated cancer center. The Eppley Cancer Center incorporates the expertise and resources from each of the Colleges and Institutes that comprise the University of Nebraska Medical Center and The Nebraska Medical Center (its affiliated hospital). World-renowned physicians in the areas of hematology and oncology, radiation therapy, surgery, and radiology provide care for over 2,000 new patients every year at the Eppley Cancer Center. 

Considered to be a Center of Excellence for the study of lymphoma, The Center’s Lymphoma Study Group has reviewed more than 40,000 biopsies and created a clinical outcome database to correlate the findings. In addition, The Nebraska Medical Center stem cell transplantation program has been recognized internationally for pioneering autologous transplantation for lymphoma, using peripheral stem cells as an alternative rescue product; conducting ground-breaking transplant studies; and performing transplants in alternate settings other than traditional inpatient hospital units.

Advice For Caregivers

Jai Pausch became a caregiver for her husband, Randy, during his 23-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Using her experiences to help others, Jai has written about the unique challenges caregivers face, dealing with loss, and creating a new life from shattered dreams. Her book, Dreaming New Dreams, will be published by Crown Publishing Group and is due out May 15, 2012. Currently, Jai is a writer, speaker and advocate for caregivers. She actively participates with several cancer organizations and serves as a board member for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and the NCCN Foundation. She lives with her new husband and three children in southern Virginia.
