The University of Alabama at Birmingham Comprehensive Cancer Center is the only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center located in a six-state area that includes Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, South Carolina, and Georgia.

The UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center focuses on numerous areas from interdisciplinary clinics to the latest techniques in bone marrow transplantation. UAB clinicians treat all types of cancer and offer multidisciplinary clinics in prostate cancer, breast cancer, women's cancers, bone marrow transplantation, gynecologic cancer, head and neck cancer, and supportive care. 

The UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center also has extensive prevention programs, including the NCI-supported Deep South Network for Cancer Control, which focuses on improving awareness of cancer prevention and treatment in underserved communities.

The Cancer Center is a leader in developing innovative monoclonal antibody approaches to cancer therapy. In addition, the Cancer Vaccine Development team at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center is developing a series of cancer vaccine trials using genetically engineered vaccine reagents.
